According to a brand new study, sixty percent of young Americans plan on purchasing firearms in the future. According to the study, about 40 percent of the American students surveyed said they definitely planned to own firearms once they had established their own households. Another 20 percent said they were “contemplating” owning guns.
Those findings were part of a broader study conducted by American University professor Jennifer L. Lawless and Loyola Marymount professor Richard L. Fox which focused on the political opinions of young Americans. The study was conducted prior the recent Newtown massacre, but after the Aurora theatre shooting.
Lawless told Campus Reform on Tuesday that in her view the findings were proof that President Obama should move swiftly, and without the permission of Congress if necessary, in order limit the availability of firearms.
“The next generation plans on owning guns, so if we want to avoid the tragedies that we’ve seen… we obviously need to move quickly and if an executive order is the way to do it, then that is the way the to do it,” she said.
Lawless said the study was not prompted by the Aurora shooting, pointing to the fact that the study focused on a broad range of political opinions among young people which included firearms.
The study indicated that there is no significant difference between the percentage of high school and college students who are considering purchasing firearms. Both polled at about 60 percent.
Students who identified as Democrats were twice as likely to fear gun violence as those who were not, the study found. Only 33 percent of the respondents who were questioned were raised in households where guns were owned.
David Burnett, the public relations director of the conservative student group Students for Concealed Carry, told Campus Reform on Tuesday he was not surprised by the study’s result.
“With every single spree killing we’ve seen in this nation in the past twenty years, with every sexual assault that takes place, nine every day on college campuses, with every robbery report we have, with every campus that goes on lockdown, these gun free zones are proven to be indefensible and impractical,” he said.
“College campuses put pictures on the door and expect psychopaths to abide by them,” he continued. “I think more and more college students have been waking up to this reality in the past five years since Virginia tech and they don’t want it.”

Gene Rosen lives so close to Sandy Hook elementary school that he heard the bullets on that dreadful day. That day, he found six terrified children and their bus driver sitting at the end of his driveway. He brought them all into his house, giving them snacks and listening to their stories about the shootings at their school. Rosen, a retired psychologist, had no idea what had happened, attributing the gunshots to hunters. But as the children told him about the massacre, and about their teacher, Mrs. Soto, protecting them with her body, Rosen was struck by their courage. He felt that he had to tell the world about them. So he did. He became one of the faces of the event, granting numerous TV interviews describing that day and the six children he sheltered. Two songwriters even wrote a song about him and posted it on You Tube.
But the ugliness that is the Sandy Hook ‘truthers’ have found this gentle man and is attacking him ruthlessly. They are calling him a liar for the government and, unimaginably, a satanist. One of his attackers even went so far as to accuse him of actually sacrificing one of the children in his basement! He has been receiving hostile emails, some demanding to know how much he is being paid to lie. He has been jeered at in restaurants. Some of the nut-jobs have put up videos “exposing” Rosen’s “lies.” Now, with a ‘news’ anchor and a professor questioning the events of December 14th, the Sandy Hook ‘truther’ movement is gaining momentum, proving that some people are so stupid that they shouldn’t be allowed to leave their rooms. It’s getting to be too much for the 69-year-old, driving him to frustration and anger. And who could blame him?
Gene Rosen is a hero. He should be held up as the very model of how we should treat one another, especially in horrific circumstances like those children found themselves in on that awful day. Instead, pea-brained paranoids are overwhelming this man with their ignorant conspiracy theories. What in the name of ANY god would make someone believe that such a terrible thing could be a hoax? Or worse, a government operation? What kind of soul-sickness would make someone attack this man who did nothing more than protect children and tell of their bravery? This is something that needs to go viral, to protect Gene Rosen and shame the monsters who are attacking him. This must not stand.

Over two billion rounds of ammunition procured by DHS and its sub-agencies in the past 18 months, plus machine guns in the tens of thousands, armored vehicles, combat aircraft, drones, and other implements of war being staged throughout our nation, our home – how do you explain that except as the preparation for battle?
I will fight not because I desire it, but because I cannot justify any other course of action – when the enemy attacks, you must fight – you must kill or you will die.
